Mark Frederick Morin

Mark Morin, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away Wednesday morning, February 21, 2018. Mark was remarkable, generous in spirit throughout all facets in his life, and he will be missed. What his family appreciates most was his constant love of his family and his best friend, his wife of 47 years. He instilled the value of family in all of us through his unconditional love. Mark was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and former IBM executive. Mark was dedicated to his first career at IBM for over 30 years. Those that worked with him knew him not only as a leader, but as a caring and supportive friend, mentor, and role model. His integrity, personality, and work ethic made him an accomplished executive, just as his priorities and principles made him an amazing father, husband, and family man. Mark and Alix retired to Siesta Key, FL and Pemaquid Point, ME, where he was allowed to spend summers. Mark continued his dedicated service to others through “volunteering”, which he attacked with the same enthusiasm as his work. He touched many lives through his community service and philanthropic contributions. He strongly believed in helping others achieve their potential and improve their lives through education. He tutored countless adult learners including at the Newtown branch of Suncoast Technical College. He was a dynamic force on the State College of Florida Foundation (SCFF) Board of Directors. Mark’s passions were SCFF Scholarship Students and revitalizing the SCFF Sundays at Neel Entertainment Series. He is well known for his positive attitude, tropical shirts, and his skills as a barbecue grill-master. An unrepentant optimist, he encouraged everyone to have an open-mind and believe that “life is good”. Affectionately known as “Geepa” to his three grandchildren, he is succeeded by his wife Alix, and Gail, Janine, Dana, Jedd, Kirsten, Jason, Lindsay, Luke, Landon, Maisie, Lacey, and Winnie. His contagious love of life will always lead to a toast to “Health and Happiness”, and his family is comforted by the many thoughts of his irrepressible smile and unmatched ability to draw a laugh. Services will be held at 2:30 pm on February 25, 2018 at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota Neel Performing Arts Center, 5840 26th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34207. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to his SCF Foundation Scholarship in his memory: The Mark and Alix Scholarship Fund at SCF Foundation.
