Mark L. Shapiro

Mark Shapiro, 50, of Sarasota, died Monday August 30, 2021. He was a beloved father, son, brother and partner, and a longtime resident of Sarasota. Mark was born on November 29, 1970 in Bardonia New York but raised in Sarasota, FL, as a young boy he excelled at jumping over trash cans with his bike which he parleyed into successful run in BMX racing. He spent summers of his childhood camping, netting & letting go frogs, fishing, riding horses, hiking and white water rafting in the mountains of Georgia and North Carolina which set the seed for his love of Nature. As a young man Mark fell in love with music and especially the drums. He started lessons with the Rabbi at his local temple. Mark’s musical taste definitely changed as he matured and heavy metal became his passion. In high school Mark even started the stereotypical garage band with his best friend. Mark graduated with a degree in criminology from the University of South Florida and worked as an STSO Officer for TSA at the Sarasota Airport through Trinity Technology Group at the time of his passing. Mark was survived by his son Ayden Shapiro and Ayden’s mother Caryn Shapiro; his Parents Barbara and Gerald Shapiro; his brother Eric (Lori) Shapiro; his sister Lauren (Josef) Federsel; his loving partner Stephanie Mesquita and his Nieces and Nephews, Abby Shapiro, Jack Shapiro and Grayson Federsel. Mark loved the outdoors, whether it was walks in the neighborhood with his two loves, walks in the many state and local parks or on the beach, as well as boating and fishing with family. His greatest joy was sharing his love of football with his son Ayden and watching him play. He will be remembered for his kind spirit, his intense loyalty, his sense of humor and his huge heart that will be missed by so many. A private ceremony will be held for immediate family with Sarasota Memorial Park Cemetery as his final resting place.
