Mary Lou Ludwig

Mary Lou Ludwig passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, with family members by her side. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Clarence Ludwig, her father Dr. George Wadsworth, her mother Marjorie Wadsworth, and her brother, John Wadsworth. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Linda Macaskill (John), Mike Ludwig (Theresa), Dr. William Ludwig (Sandy), and Susie Schwartz (Randy). Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Melissa Macaskill (fiancé Aron Lewis) and Justin Macaskill; Adrienne, Alec and Cameron Ludwig; Dr. Lisa Ludwig-Wirth (Dr. Steven Wirth) and their children Hattie and Monroe, and Dr. Rebecca Ludwig and Randy Schwartz (Jenn) and their children Ella, Jack, Colin and Parker, Anthony Schwartz (Jenn) and their son Oliver, Kristina Hinz (Chris) and their children Logan, Graham and Vivian, Trent (Dr. Alice Zhang) Schwartz, and Makenzie (Ivan) Laguna. Mary Lou, a longtime resident of Sarasota, spent most of her life in Waterloo, Iowa, raising her 4 children with Clarence who was a radiologist. She was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and frequent volunteer. Her other memberships included being a member of the Black Hawk County Medical Auxiliary, PEO member, and Advisory Board Member at Hoover Junior High School. Her business interests included a partnership in a ladies boutique, The Chalet, organizing style shows and modeling, and co-managing rental properties with Clarence. In Venice, Florida, she was an active member of the Venice Golf & Country Club 18hole golf association, a regular member of the VGCC women’s tennis team, and president of the Vestavia Homeowners Association. They then moved to The Glenridge On Palmer Ranch where she was the Palm Building Representative for 4 years and subsequently Vice President of the Glenridge Advisory Council for 3 years. In addition, she became an active member of the Social Committee and an active member of the Cruise Committee. Once she moved to Sarasota, Mary Lou was a loving member and supporter of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Mary Lou was a Registered Nurse upon her marriage to Clarence. She carried that knowledge and compassion throughout her whole life. A funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, March 5, 2021, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with interment of her ashes in St. Mary’s Garden immediately following the mass. The funeral service will be live streamed at www.moonbeamvideocasting.com/mblivestream2. Covid protocols will be followed. Because the church is now in the Lenten season, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Thomas More Church.
