Paul James McNulty

McNulty, Paul James of Bradenton, Florida left this life while surrounded by his wife and daughters on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the age of 71. Paul was born on June 20, 1951 in Silver Spring, Maryland to Patrick and Arlene McNulty. Paul and his younger brother Pat loved spending their summers on the Eastern shore. An athlete in his younger years, he enjoyed playing football and baseball. After graduating from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in 1969, he completed his undergraduate degree in Communications at Xavier University in 1974. Paul received his Master's in Educational Media at Miami University in 1980. Paul spent most of his career in Media and Marketing at NCR, Wright State University, and The University of Florida. While Paul’s work was important, his most important work was spent being a husband, father, grandfather and friend. He lived for raising his girls by always teaching them lessons along the way. He taught his daughter Julie to enjoy the outdoors by camping, hiking, body surfing the waves in the summers and skiing the slopes in the winters. He taught his daughter Katie everything she knows about sports, often mouthing “offense” or “defense” from the sidelines when she didn’t know how to call the cheers as a child, and passing down his gifts of photography, writing, and the ability to write a scathing letter as needed! Paul spent some of his favorite years on the beaches of Florida with his bride by his side. Together Paul and Jeanne built a beautiful life of love, leisure, and laughter. What we will miss most about Paul are the things he did best; delivering the perfect one-liner, grilling his famous Old Bay shrimp and steaks, playing for hours with his grandchildren, golfing with his wife and their close circle of friends in Tara, swimming laps, investing, reading books, watching PBS, photographing nature, critiquing cinematography, cheering on the Gators, passing on his wisdom, and living as the true beach bum that he always was. As the sun sets on his earthside journey, we know he is there capturing it in all of its glory, much like he did here through his own lens of life. Together we remain faithful of the sun’s promise to rise again each day. And, we know he was welcomed with wagging tail by his pal Murphy. Paul was preceded in death by his parents Patrick & Arlene McNulty. Paul is survived and will be immensely missed by his lovely wife Jeanne McNulty, daughters Julie (Daniel) Shaffer and Katie (Scott) Kenney, and six grandchildren Rachel, Jessica, AJ, Beckton, Kalvin and Lucia, brother Patrick (Rosemary) McNulty, best friend Dwight (Kristy) Montgomery, his friends, mother of his children Kathy Akers, and countless other friends and family members. Our family would like to give thanks to Tidewell Hospice who treated him like family the very short time he was in their care. Paul’s close family and friends will gather privately at Paul’s home in Bradenton for a “Toast to Paul” in January. All who knew Paul and his family are welcome to attend a second “Toast to Dad”(Paul) hosted by his daughters Julie and Katie in Centerville, Ohio on February 25th at O’Learys Pub. Details to follow.
