Richard (Dick) Aubry Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard (Dick) Aubry, Jr., 78, on June 28, 2022. Predeceased by parents Richard and Erma Huss Aubry of Alexandria, Virginia, his loss is deeply mourned by his wife Marian “Mo” Aubry and his family including his sister Barbara Ann “BA” Walsh and brother-in-law, William Walsh, as well as several Nieces, Nephews, their partners and children. Dick graduated from American University and The University of Virginia. He was a life-long educator teaching children from pre-school to graduate school. He made significant contributions in the field of Early Childhood Education through his popular national lectures on Behavior Modification. He loved children and children loved “Dr. A”. He ran in four Marine Corps Marathons claiming his success was due to getting behind some cute girl and following her over the finish line. He was an accomplished tennis player and played baseball throughout his school years and after. He was pitcher for the Farmville (Virginia) All-Stars and at the time was the only white man in that league. The friendships he developed with the All-Stars culminated in Dick’s book “It’s Not Just Black or White” which highlighted the lives of his teammates. Dick loved his Harley taking solo trips to North Carolina and Key West. He was a pilot and he once lived on a boat. Dick was a proud ATO, former Province Chief, and sincerely loved all his brothers. Dick had an open mind and a desire to try new things. Up to a point. Dick’s idea of cuisine ran the gamut from steak to potatoes and he often remarked that if God wanted us to eat fish he would have made them easier to catch. It has been suggested that the Blue Bell Ice Cream Company, Vanilla Division, be alerted to Dick’s passing. Dick had a deep if unconventional spirituality. He believed in ghosts, alien life, spoke to God daily, and felt His presence in Beethoven as well as Earth, Wind and Fire. In 1995 he married Mo. He claimed it was because she didn’t run very fast. She said she agreed to marry him if he would stop stalking her. They both claimed that the other was the love of their lives which was not a prepared statement but the honest truth. Dick joined Mo in a late-in-life business adventure buying and selling antiques and artwork. They traveled throughout the United States to exhibit at top tier shows. Together they owned five galleries in Virginia and North Carolina. Dick loved horses, dogs, most people and heartily embraced life. A celebration of Dick’s life begins today. Death has no dominion over a life well lived. The family of Dick Aubry wishes to thank Tidewell Hospice.
