Alan Saslow

Alan Saslow, beloved husband, father, grandfather and dedicated volunteer, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at the age of 90 in his home in Venice, Florida. Born in Connecticut, Alan’s life was a testament to hard work, love, and selfless service to others. Born in 1934 to Barney and Edith Saslow, Alan came from humble beginnings. At his mother’s urging, he pursued a college education—a goal he was determined to achieve. He joined ROTC and served his country proudly, using that service to help fund his education. Alan met his soulmate, Silvia, on a blind date at the University of Connecticut—a meeting that sparked a lifelong love. Their journey soon took them to France, where Alan proudly served as a Captain in the Army. It was there that they married and welcomed their first son, Steven, beginning the beautiful life they would build together. Upon their return from France, they settled in Connecticut where they welcomed their second son Glenn. As a pharmaceutical representative for his entire career, Alan thrived in the medical field, connecting with others through his warmth, wit, and humor. His compassion shone in his volunteer work: he tutored as a literacy volunteer, empowering others through education; founded a patient advocacy group for cancer patients at Yale New Haven Hospital, offering hope and support; and served as a hospice volunteer, bringing comfort to those in their final days. Alan found joy in woodworking, where he crafted exquisite vases from exotic woods; in photography, through which he captured the beauty of the world around him; and in running, which kept him active and grounded. He took up running in the 1970s and maintained a daily exercise routine for the rest of his life. He proudly completed the 12.4-mile New Haven Road Race multiple times, proving his grit and determination—despite always claiming he had no athletic talent. In 2005, Alan and Silvia relocated to Florida, embracing the lifestyle with enthusiasm. Known for his playful spirit, Alan was a jokester, often repeating—“My three favorite things in life are nice cars, expensive watches, and women”—with a twinkle in his eye. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, laughter and craftsmanship. Alan is survived by his sons Glenn and his wife Mary, and Steven and his wife Lori, along with his grandchildren Joshua, Jennifer and her husband Charlie, Amanda, Brian, and Alex. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Yale New Haven Hospital’s cancer support programs or a local hospice organization.
