Burton Louis Raimi

Burton L. Raimi passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, in Sarasota, Florida surrounded by family. Burton was a beloved partner, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Burton is survived by his life partner, Rosalyn Fleischer; his daughter Diane Klein and her family (husband Richard Klein and grandsons Max and Alex Klein); and his son Matthew Raimi and his family (wife Debbie Shrem, and grandchildren Noah and Alyssa Raimi). He is also survived by his two younger brothers – Stephen Raimi and Richard Raimi as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Burton was extremely intelligent, generous, witty, warm and funny. He was always willing to provide advice, help friends with legal matters, volunteer for his HOA and synagogue, and support his family. Burton was born in Detroit, Michigan to Irving and Rae Raimi on May 5, 1938. He was proud to be from Detroit and was a passionate Lions fan. He attended Detroit Country Day School and then Brandeis University, where he graduated in 1960. He returned to his home state where he received his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1963. Also in 1963, he got married to Judith Morse and, following law school, they moved to Washington, D.C. He then began a long and successful career in law, working first for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the National Labor Relations Board. After several years of public service, he went into private law practice in Washington D.C. While in Washington, he raised his two children – Diane and Matthew. Burton enjoyed coaching Matt’s soccer team, vacations and holidays with his family, bowling leagues, going to Washington Redskins football games, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, and steak dinners at The Palm restaurant. In 1994, Burton left big law firm life and moved to Sarasota, Florida, a city he knew well as many relatives lived in the area. While in Florida, he started a law firm which he proudly ran until his full retirement in 2025. In 2009, Burton met his life partner Rosalyn Fleicher. Together, Rosalyn and Burton created a new life for themselves that included dinners and parties with friends, going to the opera and theater, visiting family, and taking cruises. Family was always very important to Burton, and he absolutely adored his four grandchildren, and this is where his generosity really shined. Family visits to Florida typically included steak dinners at Capital Grill, contests to see who could eat the biggest frozen yogurt treat (Burton usually won!), fishing trips on Sarasota Bay, and visiting local attractions. Burton was also always looking to the future and taught his grandchildren about the stock market and investments. The funeral will take place at Temple Beth Shalom (1050 South Tuttle Ave) at 11 am on August 4, 2026, with internment to follow Beth Sholom Cemetery on Circus Boulevard. Donations in Burton’s honor may be made to Brandeis University or to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
