Elsa Marie-Louise Rosenquist

It is with heavy hearts that we are sharing that the matriarch of our family Elsa Marie-Louise Rosenquist passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 4, 2026, in her home in Sarasota Florida. Marie Loiuse, or as we all knew her as Malou, was born in Gothenburg Sweden on February 10, 1942 to Judith Elisabeth Borjesson and Nils Henrik Borjesson. Malou lived her younger years in Gothenburg but decided to immigrate to the United States in 1966 with her husband Sven Arne Rosenquist and landed in Lansing Michigan where they lived for 7 years until moving to northern NJ where they raised their boys Peter Arne Rosenquist and Robert Sven Rosenquist. Malou and Arne lived in New Jersey until 1988, when they made one last move south to Sarasota FL and lived in Sarasota until her passing in 2026. Malou was born and grew up in Sweden and cherished her Swedish heritage, even after moving to the United States where she lived most of her life. She was very proud to be a Swedish-American and held on to her Swedish traditions and language her entire life. In her younger years Malou was a successful model and was featured by several modeling agencies in Europe and this eventually brought her to Miami FL, where she got her first exposure to the United States at the age of 17. After modeling and moving to the US, Malou started her own business in Interior Design which she ran successfully in New Jersey and Florida for over 40 years. She was a tenacious and driven entrepreneur and had success with her business because of her drive and her willingness to always work hard for her customers. She was known to always go out of her way to get things done. She was given the nickname “Fast Eddie” by her husband because she was constantly on the move, and acted with a purposeful sense of urgency. She loved her business and Malou Interior Design defined her for many years. However, her first passion was her family and there was almost nothing she would not do to lift up and support her husband, kids and grandchildren to make them successful and happy. Malou had 7 grandchildren, Christina (19), Anna (25), Shaylin (31), Mirja (51), Jefferey (48), Shaun (24), Jack (24) and 4 great grandchildren, Ava (11), Miles (10), Cohen (8) and Beckham (1). Malou made sure she was a part of their lives as much as possible by communicating regularly via letters, text, birthday cards and visits. She was loved by her family very much and she loved unconditionally and passionately with her heart on her sleeve. Her life in Sarasota included her Interior Design business for many years, but she was also very active in her community. She was a regular at the local yoga shop and even in her later years she was very fit and flexible. She was also very active in the Swedish Club of Sarasota as a member and as a leader where she lived and grew the Swedish culture with the membership of the Swedish Club and her Swedish community. Malou was predeceased by her husband Sven Arne Rosenquist in 2006 and is survived by her brother Lars Olof Lagerberg who still lives in Gothenburg Sweden, her stepdaughter Marie-Louise (Mimi) Gunthart, and Mimi’s husband Ulrich Gunthart, her older son Peter Arne Rosenquist, her younger son Robert Sven Rosenquist and Robert’s wife and Malou’s daughter in law, Elaine Rosenquist. A memorial service will be held for Malou on Saturday June 27th, 2026 at 11:00am at the St. Armands Key Lutheran Church in Sarasota Florida. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Malou and her family would want donations to be made to the Multiple Myeloma Foundation in her honor. This is the disease that affected her late husband’s life in 2006.
