Francis Joseph Galle Sr.

Francis Joseph Galle Sr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, at The Palms South of Venice, surrounded by his family. He was born in Yonkers, New York, to Francis and Mary Galle (Doyle). He began working at the age of 13 in his family’s business, Galle Amusement. Following his father’s passing, he expanded the company into the largest amusement machine business in Westchester County. He married his beloved wife, Harriet Demetreu, on November 24, 1962. In 1972, they purchased their first home in Lake George on Old Assembly Point, where they shared their appreciation of the lake with their four children: Nanette O’Brien (Connell) Valerie Telfair (Charles), June Jeckel (Scott), and Frank Jr. (Elizabeth). The family spent each summer there until relocating permanently in August 1984 to Cleverdale, New York. He was an active member of North Queensbury Volunteer Fire Department for more than 35 years and became a lifetime member. He instilled his commitment to community service to his children and grandchildren. Frank was also a founding member of the Lakers Athletic & Social Club in Yonkers, NY. They were large sponsors for youth programs, youth sport teams and hosting many holiday events. He was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lake George where he taught Confirmation class for 8 years and while Harriet taught 4th grade classes. Never one to remain idle, he later established a landscaping business and took great satisfaction in working outdoors, whether plowing snow or mowing lawns. He was predeceased by his parents and his younger siblings, Denis Galle and Regina Montone. He is survived by his wife of 63 years and his sister Patricia Mohammed (Keith) as well as his 11 grandchildren: CJ Telfair, Brendan Telfair, Alex Telfair, Robert Leahy, Harrison Leahy, Samantha Jeckel, Andrew Jeckel, Nicholas Jeckel, Anthony Galle, Angelo Galle, and Ari Galle and his great grandchildren, Anastasia Telfair and JJ Telfair as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Toale Brothers in Osprey, Florida. A Catholic service will be held on Friday, July 31, at 10:30 am. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel followed by interment in the Memorial Garden and a reception in the church hall. The family expresses their sincerest gratitude for the compassionate care provided by the nurses and aides at The Palms South of Venice. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to North Queensbury Volunteer Fire Department. A memorial service will be held in Lake George at a future date and posted on Facebook.
