Gaye Collette Probus

Gaye Collette Probus, 78, of Sarasota, FL, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Manor Care of Sarasota surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 30, 1937 in Chicago, Illinois to Lillian and Harold Bishop. Gaye grew up with two loving sisters, Joyce (Gould) and Cherie (Hollingsworth). She graduated from the Loring School for Girls in Chicago and later graduated from banking school, also in Chicago. Gaye moved to Sarasota with her family in 1959 and later spent time living in California and Kentucky before returning home to Sarasota in the late 1970s. She was employed in secretarial positions in the banking, hotel, and legal industries. Following the birth of her children, she was a homemaker. Gaye was a member at The Tabernacle Church and later at Church of the Holy Spirit. She was known for her devotion to her children and grandchildren, her sense of humor, her unique laughter, and her love of sunshine, music, and iced tea. Gaye was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian Virginia Bishop and William Harold Bishop, as well as her older sister Joyce Gould. She is survived by her son, Robert Denzil Probus Jr. of Sarasota, her daughter Kimberly Suzanne Probus-Clark (David) of Sarasota, her grandchildren Ariel, Brittany, Jaden, Dawson, Paxton and Holden, her sister Cherie Hollingsworth of Arcadia, and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11:00 am Saturday morning April 30, 2016 at Toale Brothers Funeral Home – 6903 South Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, Florida 34231 with a service to follow at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be private. The family would like to offer their deepest gratitude to all those who cared for her and touched her life at Manor Care of Sarasota and, in more recent days, to Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota. Memorial Donations may be made in her honor to The Hug Fund for Manor Care employees who have come on hard times due to illness, injury, death of a loved one, or natural disaster (The Hug Fund; 333 North Summit Street; Toledo, Ohio, 43604) or to Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota. Gaye's services will be held on her birthday. As such, in honor of Gaye's wishes, the family requests that guests wear bright, cheerful colors as we celebrate her life.
