John Robert "Bob" Long

John Robert "Bob" Long passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at the age of 86, in the comfort of his home in Sarasota, Florida and surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 10, 1940, to John "Jack" Robert Long Sr. and Marcella “Sally” (Schumer) Long. He grew up in a rural town outside St. Louis, Missouri, where he developed a strong faith in God, an appreciation for family, and a strong work ethic that would guide him throughout his life. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He and his wife, Karen, believed family were among their greatest blessings. He was the proud father of six and grandfather of twelve. Many memories were made during weekends on the water and family trips to the Bahamas. He took great joy in sharing his love of boating with his children and grandchildren. Bob worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He became a highly respected business leader within the marine industry. Most notably during his 17yrs as President of Wellcraft Marine and 22 years as owner of Marine Concepts. Those who worked with him understood that he valued people most. He found the greatest satisfaction in building exceptional teams, mentoring future leaders, and creating opportunities for others to succeed. The true measure of his success was found in the lives he touched and the relationships he built. Bob believed in giving back to both his community and the marine industry. He was a generous supporter of Mote Marine in Sarasota, where he also served on its Board of Trustees. He was an active member at his Parish of Incarnation Catholic Church and grateful to be a part of that community. He was also deeply involved with the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), dedicating countless hours to advancing the recreational boating industry. His greatest pride and deepest joy were found in his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen (Hennelly) Long, whose love and partnership were the foundation of their family. He is survived by his sons, John (Chrisy), Fr. Patrick, Michael (Sandy), Kevin (Ashley), and Stephen (Krystyna) Long and his daughter, Michelle (Chris) Jorgensen; He is also survived by his sisters, Carroll Boyer and Regina Anderson and his twelve beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind many cherished extended family members, dear friends, former colleagues, and countless others whose lives were enriched by his kindness, guidance, and example. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bob's life: Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N. Orange Avenue, Sarasota, Florida 34236. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., at Incarnation Catholic Church, 2901 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, Florida 34239. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Incarnation Catholic Church, Sarasota and Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, Sarasota
