John Douglas Schriber

John Douglas Schriber, born April 7, 1966, entered Heaven’s gates and the arms of Jesus while in the care of Hospice on August 12, 2023. John is survived by his wife Amy (Berlien), and children Alexis, Adrianna (Tyler) Wojcik, Christopher, Joshua, Luke, and Matthew (12), and his grandchildren Eli (8) and Ella (3) Wojcik. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, U.S. Navy Captain John “Jack” and Lucinda (Lott) Schriber. John worked at Bikes International in Venice, where he loved working with staff and customers to provide the best biking experience for each client, and where he established many close friendships with fellow employees. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, playing games & cards, fishing, golfing, biking, and almost anything outdoors. John was a super sports fan. Most days or evenings there was some game or race to watch in our home—hockey, college football, baseball, or racing. He was also a super fan for our children and grandchildren when they were participating in a sport or an event. John didn’t want to miss a moment of any of it and cheered them on as only their biggest fan could! John’s heart was for The Lord and for his family. He loved ministry involving Youth. He spent over 9 years teaching the Youth of First Baptist Venice. He cherished the relationships he established with each of them and wanted to share the love of Jesus with each one. Most evidently, John’s heart was for his family. He wanted to be involved in all aspects of our children’s and grandchildren’s lives. We were always scheduling events and outings as a family, whether it was a sports activity, a birthday celebration, a vacation, a family dinner, or a holiday outing. John was never content if he was missing out on something. It seems that every picture we have of him radiates his love & joy for his family and the exact moment he was experiencing. As someone recently said, when you say ‘John Schriber’ it’s impossible not to smile. This is the joy he brought to us and this world. Our husband, dad, ‘Papa’, son, brother, uncle, teacher, coach, and friend will be deeply missed. But we rejoice in the knowledge that he is in the loving embrace of our loving Savior, Jesus! “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His faithful servants.” Psalm 116:15 A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 25th at 6:00pm (doors opening at 5:30) at Grace Community Bible Church, 1045 US 41 Bypass South, Venice FL 34285. We are encouraging anyone in attendance to wear your favorite sports jersey, shirt, polo, etc. to honor John’s love of sports. In lieu of flowers, we are accepting contributions to further Matthew’s education.
