Born on August 13, 1937, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Nelson lived a full and remarkable life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and unforgettable memories. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucy Nelson Linam and Walter Linam; his brother, Todger; and his first wife, Carol. Nelson leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Jackie, who shared countless happy days and quiet evenings with him. Their nightly tradition of enjoying a glass of wine and a cigar together, never without their beloved dog, Goose, by their side, became one of life’s simple pleasures and a reflection of the deep bond they shared. He is also survived by his sisters, Sarah and Martha; his daughters, Pamela and Carolyn; and his grandson, Cameron. A proud Navy veteran, Nelson believed in hard work, perseverance, and creating opportunities. As the owner and founder of Maxi Muffler, he built more than a business—he built lasting relationships through his integrity, hard work, and generosity. Those who knew him often joked that he was the Energizer Bunny because he simply never stopped. Whether he was working in the yard, tinkering around the house, or helping someone else with a project, sitting still was never part of his plan. If there was one place Nelson was happiest, it was on a golf course. He played four days a week until the very end and took great pride in the fact that he could still shoot below his age. He collected more tournament victories than anyone could count, including one memorable win while wearing a cast on his leg. He also valued his time on the course with his buddies, which was something he truly enjoyed. One of his greatest joys was introducing his grandson Cameron to golf, mentoring him, supporting his golf endeavors, and sharing the game they both loved. His adventurous spirit also found its way to the water. Nelson loved boating and owned several boats throughout his life, creating lasting memories with family and others, including trips all the way to the Bahamas. His love of cars was just as strong. From drag racing to everything cars, if it had an engine, it had his attention. More than anything, Nelson will be remembered for the way he loved people. He was generous, loving, funny, and truly loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, sense of humor, and genuine heart made him someone people naturally gravitated toward. A celebration of Nelson’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Moffitt Cancer Center in his memory. While his family will miss his stories, his laughter, and the unmistakable sound of his golf clubs, boat engines, and tinkering around the house, they find comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the people he loved and the countless lives he touched. A life so fully lived leaves memories that never fade, and Nelson’s will continue to bring smiles for generations to come.
