Nicholas George Blazakis

Our Dear Lord has called home his servant, Nicholas George Blazakis on July 14, 2017. Nick was born in Ambridge, PA on January 9, 1943, a son of unselfish hardworking immigrants from the Island of Crete, GR. He was a proud Army Veteran, a Golden Gloves Boxer, a Youngstown State University alumni, a Masonic Free Mason, a member of Ahepa, Served as Parish Council President at St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox in St. Petersburg, Fl, and an active member of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, Sarasota, Fl. He had a 33 year career working for the General Motors Corporation as a Superintendent at the Lordstown, Oh and Moraine, Oh assembly plants. To carry on his memory, he leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Marilyn (Gonda) Blazakis, loving daughter, Polly (Steve Weyand) Blazakis of St. Petersburg, FL, his only grandchild, Sophia Blazakis, the light of his life of Chattanooga, TN, loving brothers, Andy (Dee) Blazakis, Columbus, OH, Dino (Mary) Blazakis, Baltimore, MD, sister-in-law Gerry (Jack) Smalley, Whispering Pines, NC, Kathy Straniak, Sarasota, FL, numerous nieces and nephews, Joe(Sherry) Zugliani, Beaver, PA, Laura (Mark) Montellanico, Cleveland, OH, Craig Blazakis, Valerie(Steve) Molnar, Chris Blazakis, Columbus, OH, Ohio, Bruce (Lisa) Hamilton, Joe (Kristen) Hamilton, Dino (Shelly) Blazakis, Deon (Alyana) Blazakis, Tara(Matt) Meredith, Baltimore, MD Sara (Tracy) Gapin, Sarasota, FL, Steve Smalley, Raleigh, NC, John(Kacey) Smalley, St. Cloud, FL numerous Godchildren and many cousins from all around the country whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his son, George Blazakis, his parents George and Katherine Blazakis, brother, Milton Blazakis and sister, Clara Zugliani. Nick was an avid sports buff and proverbial story teller (The Big Fish). He loved anything Pittsburgh. His sense of humor and wealth of information will be missed by everyone, as he was the ROCK for all who knew him. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m.at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 7671 Lockwood Ridge Rd., Sarasota, FL 34243 Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, July 19, 2017at 11:00 a.m at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 7671 Lockwood Ridge Rd., Sarasota, FL 34243. Interment will be Thursday at 10 a.m at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Rt. 72, Sarasota, Fl 34241. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 7671 Lockwood Ridge Rd., Sarasota, FL 34243.
