Raymond Burd Smith

Raymond Burd Smith, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 92. Born on January 20, 1932, in Monessen PA, Ray led a remarkable life filled with love for all, a passion for dentistry and golf. Ray dedicated his life to his passions. He put his family first above anything else. Second was his love of dentistry. He embraced this passion, starting his dentistry career in the army stationed at Ft Lewis in Tacoma, WA. After serving in the miliary, Ray set up his practice with his father-in-law in Versailles PA. He served the community for 47 years, retiring to Long Boat Key Florida in 2006. In addition to his passion for dentistry, he was involved in multiple community service organizations. He was the president of the Allegheny County Chamber of Commerce, President of the PA division of the American Cancer Society for two consecutive years, He was the president of the advisory board of the McKeesport campus of Penn State University. in addition, Ray supported the community of Elizabeth Township PA in many other ways. Ray’s passion continued serving in his retirement. He volunteered at the Friendship Center to help uninsured patients in need of dental care. He golfed, enjoyed the Sarasota Theater, and volunteered at St. Armands Lutheran Church. Ray’s love for his family and generosity cannot be captured in words. His footprint and philosophies in life are instilled in his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He left a legacy of kindness, respect, putting others before himself. He was adored and respected by all who had the wonderful opportunity to know him. Ray is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lynne of 65 years, his four children, Jay (Debbie), Stacey (Lonnie), Shelly (Lou) and Mary Beth. His grandchildren, Christian (Ashlee), Lonnie Crenshaw (Rachel), Nathainel, Holly, Raymond Jay, Mara, and Mario. His great grandchildren, Savannah, Shaw, Carson, and Leland. Raymond Smith will be deeply missed by his family, friends all those whose lives he touched. Raymond’s Celebration of life will be held April 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with a luncheon at the fellowship hall to follow.
