Ronald James McCluskey

Ronald James McCluskey, 95, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at 8:03 p.m., leaving behind a legacy of faith, education, service, and compassion that touched lives across two continents. Born on September 26, 1930, in Lynwood, California, Ronald was the son of Leon Oral McCluskey and Adele Gauthier. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Luis Felipe McCluskey; and his beloved sisters, Evelyn, Mary Lou, and Kathy. A lifelong learner dedicated to serving others, Ronald earned his undergraduate degree from Marquette University before completing a master's degree and twelve years of formation and study as a Redemptorist missionary. He spent eleven years serving in the Amazon region of Brazil, sharing his faith and working among local communities. Following a dispensation from the Vatican, Ronald continued his educational pursuits at Bowling Green State University, where he earned a master's degree in Educational Administration in 1973. Prior to completing his studies at Bowling Green, Ronald married the love of his life, Maria McCluskey of Belém, Brazil, in 1970. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, education, and service. Ronald went on to combine his passion for education and leadership by serving as director of American schools throughout Brazil and South America. Through his dedication and vision, he helped shape the lives of countless students and educators. He remained in this role until 1995, when he and his family relocated to the United States. Service to others remained a defining characteristic throughout Ronald's life. For many years, he was an active member of Rotary International, supporting humanitarian efforts and community service initiatives. Later in life, he became a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where he continued to live out his faith through fellowship, charitable works, and service to others. Outside of his professional and religious commitments, Ronald found great joy on the tennis court. An avid tennis player throughout his life, he cherished the friendships, competition, and discipline the sport provided. Ronald is survived by his beloved wife, Maria; his sons, Paulo, Carlos, and Moises, his daughters-in-law, Alessandra, Justine, and Vera; and his six cherished grandchildren. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his commitment to education, his spirit of service, and the kindness and generosity he extended to all who knew him. His life's work enriched countless communities, and his legacy will continue to inspire the many people whose lives he touched throughout the United States, Brazil, and beyond. May he rest in the peace of Christ, surrounded by our love and eternal gratitude.
