Vera C. Condon

Vera C. Condon, May 15, 1922 - Jun. 19, 2016, 94, of Siesta Key, FL formerly of Alexandria, VA passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, June 19, 2016 at her home. Vera was born May 15, 1922 the daughter of the late John W. and Ida (Priestley) Crossley. Vera is survived by her 5 children, Thomas J. (Mary Fran), John K.(Mary Anne), Leslie P.(Bruce Tharp), Marietta, and Lisa A.(Daniel Sullivan). She also leaves ten grandchildren (Kimberly, Thomas, and Caroline Condon, Candice Cunningham and Sean Condon, Jennifer Tomlin and Daniel and Patrick Sullivan, Brendan and Christopher Tharp), and four great grandchildren (Jordan and Cameron Condon and Peyton and Avery Cunningham). Vera was preceded in death by her husband Lester P. Condon, grandchild Kourtenay C. Tharp, brothers Edmond and John, sisters Ruth and Louise. Vera Condon was raised in Andover, MA and attended Punchard High School, and went on to obtain her RN from Salem Hospital. She was an officer and nurse in the US Navy, World War II. While training in Providence, RI, Vera met her future husband Lester P. Condon while he attended Providence College. Vera was a volunteer for the American Red Cross along with other humanitarian organizations including Tidewell Hospice, Sarasota, FL. Vera loved the ocean and enjoyed being surrounded by her family and friends while at her summer home in Bethany Beach, DE or on the beach in Siesta Key, FL. She was quite the homemaker, and mastered many crafts from needlepoint to reupholstery. Playing bridge with friends proved to be one of her favorite pastimes. Vera cared deeply and was admired and loved by all who knew her. A celebration of Vera's life will be held at 10 AM on July 6, 2016 at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church on Siesta Key, FL. Later there will be a funeral service at Ft. Meyer Chapel followed by interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
