Alicia E. Brown Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Alicia E. Brown passed away at her home in Lakewood Ranch, Florida on May14,2022. She had just turned 55. Alicia courageously battled cancer for 3 years before she decided that she wanted to suspend treatment and live the remainder of her life in peace. She is survived by a loving family and many, many dear friends. Alicia was no stranger to the medical community. Surgeries and treatments were a constant in her life from birth but remarkably she never developed a “why me mentality.” She always displayed grace, a courageous spirit, and always had a smile on her face while facing one medical obstacle after another. Her greatest attributes were her fighting spirit, positive attitude and a wicked sense of humor. She worked in Washington, DC at The Association for Americans with Disabilities. After moving to Florida to be near family she worked at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center until health issues forced her to retire. She loved reading, cruising, and birthdays (she managed to stretch birthdays out for a month, and they had to include lots of buttercream frosting). Alicia loved games. Playing Maj Jong with her “ladies”, a good card game, and “dad and daughter” bingo brought out her competitive nature, which was entertaining to observe. She had a kind generous spirit and was always there to lend an ear to a friend. It was a joy to have been blessed with her presence and love. She mentally prepared for her passing by the surety of a reunion with her loving grandparents, aunts, and friends who went before. Her memory will live in the heart of many! Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over….it became a butterfly. A Memorial is being planned for a later date. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the remarkable organization TideWell Hospice in memory of Alicia. The support and compassionate care they provided was invaluable.
