Allan D. Gersman

Allan D. Gersman of University Park, FL., formerly from Parkersburg, WV, passed away on February 17, 2021. Born in Canton, OH on October 29, 1934, Allan went on to graduate from Parkersburg High School and The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a diploma from the Chicago School of Interior Decoration. He, along with his father and brother, owned Gersman’s Furniture Gallery, and later Gersman’s Ethan Allen Gallery in Parkersburg for 40 years. He and his wife Marty retired to Sarasota in 1997. An avid Ohio State fan and member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity, Allan belonged to the Sarasota OSU Alumni Club and often attended game day watch parties at Captain Curt’s on Siesta Key. He was an active member of Temple Sinai, serving on the board and various committees. He was also involved on committees in the University Park Country Club community. Allan is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Marty, and children Terri (Scott) Gordon and Mark (Tammy) Gersman. He was immensely proud of his grandchildren, Davi Gordon, Matt Gordon, Michael (Emily) Gersman, and Kyle (partner Justin Stover) Gersman, as well as his many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Don (Harriet) Gersman of Sarasota and sister Marilyn (Jesse) Rodman of Michigan City, IN. A private service was held at Temple Beth Sholom Cemetery on February 21, 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Temple Sinai in Sarasota, American Heart Association, or a charity of choice.
