    Alma R. Sanger

    October 7, 1940 - April 24, 2021

    Alma passed away April 24, 2021 after a short illness. She was married to her loving husband Richard A. Sanger for 56 years. She was preceded in death by her Mother Susan Blackley Fleming, Father John H. Fleming, Brother Charlie B Fleming. She is survived by her devoted husband, a loving son, Lawrence K. Sanger and Sister Minnie Amerman. Alma was born in Granville County, NC. She moved to Tampa, Fl when she was 12 years old. She graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1958 and went to work for the telephone company as a switchboard operator. She met her future husband at Florida Avenue Baptist Church and were married in the church April 23, 1965. They moved to Gainesville, Fl where her husband attended the University of Florida. Their son Lawrence was born in 1969. His first job moved them to Naples Fl in 1971 where she worked for the telephone company and as an EKG technician at the local hospital. They next move was to Seminole Florida where she worked at a large electronics firm in the human resources department. They moved back to Gainesville where she worked for a large plumbing company as Secretary. Their final move was to Sarasota where they have lived for the past 30 plus years. Alma worked as Benefits Coordinator at the largest electronic firm in Sarasota County for more than 30 years. She retired in 2008 and lived comfortably as a wife and mother. She and her husband are active members of Southside Baptist Church and The Gideons International where she was an Auxiliary member. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior when she was still living in NC. She will be missed by her husband, son, sister and niece Susan Amerman four nephews James G, John F. and Edwin V. Amerman. Eight grand nephews and nieces She has five cousins that grew up together still living in North Carolina and Georgia She was loved by her family and friends and will be missed by those she has known and helped through the years. Alma’s compassion and kindness were a comfort to her family and her guidance and advice will be missed by those who loved her. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations can be made to The Gideons International to place Bibles or New Testaments around the world so Men, Women, Boys and Girls can come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday May 22, 2021 at Southside Baptist Church, 2035 Magnolia Street, Sarasota, Fl, Interment Monday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery 9810 Clark (SR72) Road.
