December 16, 1951 - June 10, 2020
Antonio Fernando Pereira born December 16, 1951 in Vilar de Cunhas, Portugal, passed away on June 10, 2020 in his home in Sarasota, Florida surrounded by his beloved family at the age of 68. Anyone else fighting stage 4 cancer would have gone quietly into the night, but he died just as he lived, he wrote his own rules resisting the urge to give into his disease, “life is good”. He was a strong patriarch of his family and a man who considered good friends family. Nando is survived in legacy by his beautiful wife, Maria, who supported his every dream and their biggest loves in life, his forever grateful children, Elza and Paul, their partners, Adrian and Ana, and Papa’s pride and joy, Laila, Zoe, Sebastiao and Antonio. He was a good father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them and his grandchildren. He was born in northern Portugal, son of Maria Carvalho and Antonio Pereira where he grew his loyalty for family, the country side and good food. He learned to become a man and gained his love and respect for the sea in the Portuguese Merchant Marines. He traveled the world until he found a place to call home, Newark, New Jersey. Soon after, he married the love of his life, Maria. The adventures they shared during their 46 years of marriage is a journey filled with tough struggles and fruitful dreams, a real love story that weathered every storm and a friendship that grew deeper with each passing year. As a very young man he learned to work hard, stay goal focused and stand up for what he believed. He started his career in the collision business and his love of cars and quality work was realized with Lusamer Autobody. He expected hard work not only from himself, his son Paul, but from his extended family at Lusamer. His generosity and kind heart touched many people in his community and led to his many contributions here. “Passarino” was loved by many and respected by all. He was a man of his word and conducted business on a handshake. The Pereira family extends an enormous appreciation to all the cancer facilities, staff, doctors for their help. Due to the current circumstances the funeral services will be private, and in lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the research on cancer. If you’d like to extend your condolences to the family please post on Tony’s facebook page: Antonio F. Pereira or at www.ToaleBrothers.com. There will be a celebration of his life memorial at a later date.
