Carol Anne Chellew Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Carol was born in Philadelphia, PA, where she graduated from John Bartram High School with Honors. She also earned college athletic scholarships in both field hockey and basketball. Carol went on to earn a Registered Nursing degree from Manatee Community College. She lived in Sarasota for the past 65 years where she worked as an RN in pediatrics at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and then later for Lincare Medical. Carol loved fishing, she especially loved fishing with her great nephews when they were young. She also loved the Sarasota and Englewood beaches and took some of the most beautiful sunset pictures. Carol loved camping and enjoying time in nature. She also loved animals, especially her dogs, birds and fish. She was an artist, knitter, crafter and loved creating gifts for family and friends. There are many baby blankets in the world thanks to Carol, all made with lots of love. Carol loved watching sports, especially baseball and collecting baseball cards. Carol and Ester, her life partner and friend of 55 years, enjoyed cruises and spending time at their favorite cottage on Englewood beach. Carol loved her family and friends. Carol was a wonderful, thoughtful, caring, and proud Aunt. She was a blessing to her nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. She always remembered birthdays and special occasions with a thoughtful card. Carol will be incredibly missed. Carol was preceded in death by her life partner Ester Kaufman, her parents Norman and Frances Chellew, her sister Barbara Roberts Bartys, and her nephew Paul Roberts Carol will be missed by many including her sister Linda Chellew, her nieces Robin Knoph (and husband Dr. William Knopf), Julianne McGovern (and husband Steve McGovern), Audrey Muse (and husband Philip Muse), her great nephews Oliver Marshall and Simon Marshall, her great nieces Katherine McGovern, Anna McGovern, Megan Benedict and Kalyn Hudson, and by two great grandnieces and one great grandnephew . A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 16th at 11:00 a.m. at The First Congregational Church of Christ, 1031 South Euclid Av, Sarasota, FL In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Humane Society of Sarasota County.
