Charles Anthony Roehl Jr

Charles Anthony Roehl, age 88, of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan and Venice, Florida, died on March 27, 2025. He was born to Inez (Smafield) Roehl and Charles Anthony Roehl Sr. on April 21, 1936. Charles was a track and football star at De La Salle High School in Detroit. He had a full athletic scholarship to University of Detroit, where he majored in Accounting. He ran a 100 yard dash in 9 6/10 seconds, and held an indoor track world record in 1958. After college he entered the Marines. He worked his way through law school at Detroit College of Law while working as a supervisor at Uniroyal. He was a practicing attorney in the Michigan Bar Association for over 50 years at the time of his death. He operated import/exports businesses in Venezuela, Ecuador, Columbia and Central America for over 30 years. He loved working with his partners and associates at Barney’s Convenience Mart Ohio in years before his retirement. In his final years, he was president of small private foundation, and business owner of a trucking and logistics company in Michigan. Charles loved gardening. He prized his tomatoes and roses, and making jam from fruit in his yard. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his adored grandchildren. When not spending time with family, he enjoyed drinking fine wine and fine dining with friends. He was known for his entertaining stories about his adventures overseas. His son Charles Anthony Roehl III; his daughter, Michele Ann Roehl Worden and husband Peter B Worden Jr.; his four grandchildren, Amanda Roehl, Christopher Roehl, Margaret Mary Worden, and Peter B. Worden III; and his brother Thomas Roehl (Mickey), and sister Ellen Roehl survive Charles. Numerous extended family and close friends also survive him. His beloved wife Joyce Ann Roehl of 60 years, his brothers William (Carol) and Paul (Christina) Roehl pre-deceased him. Charles will be cremated by Toale Brothers funeral home in Venice, Florida. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025 at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice Florida. A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held directly afterwards in the Bella Costa condominium clubhouse on Santa Maria Rd. in Venice. On May 6, 2025, a Memorial mass will be held in Grosse Pointe Farms at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church at 467 Fairford Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. A luncheon is scheduled afterwards at a place TBD. He will be laid to rest at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit with his beloved wife Joyce of 60 years.
