Clifton H. (Cliff) Forbush, Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Clifton H. (Cliff) Forbush Jr. passed away on July 10, 2022 at the Tidewell Hospice, Lakewood Ranch, Florida. He was he husband of Rita (Lawrence) Forbush. He was born July 3rd, 1927, in Peekskill, New York, to Catherine McCutchen Forbush and Clifton H. Forbush. A graduate of Peekskill High School in 1944, Cliff joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. After his military service he attended Middlebury College in Vermont and graduated with a B.A. in 1949. Recalled to active duty in 1950, he served two more years on the USS Compton (DD 705) as its Anti Submarine Warfare Officer. While in Newport, Rhode Island, he met and married his wife, Rita on February 22, 1951. Post the Korean War, he became a member and subsequent OIC (Officer in Command) of NRID (Naval Intelligence) unit 3-1 Hartford, Connecticut, and retired as a Lieutenant-Commander in 1967. He spent his professional career of forty-two years in the insurance and banking industries, beginning with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Hartford, CT, and culminating as a Chief Investment Officer; Vice President, Investments at Kentucky Central Life Insurance Co., of Lexington, KY. He held the coveted Chartered Financial Analyst designation (1967) as well as that of Fellow of the Life Management Institute and past principal of the NASD. He was a member of the Hartford, New York and Louisville Societies of Financial Analysts, serving as director of the latter. His long devotion to community service included, Chairman of the Windsor, Conn. Community Chest, Vice Chairman of the North Branch of the YMCA, member of the Exchange Club and Trustee and teacher at The First Congregational Church of Windsor. He was Finance Chairman and Treasurer of the American Red Cross in Lexington, Kentucky, President of the Retired Officers Association of the Bluegrass, Division Chairman of the United Way and a member of the Rotary Club of Lexington. He retired to Sarasota, FL in 1996, after living in Lexington, KY with his family for many years. He maintained a relationship with Lexington by managing two investment trusts tied to the horse industry. In Sarasota, he served as a deacon and head usher at the United Church of Christ. He liked to sing and for many years sang in the Meadows Chorus. For the past 26 years he lived with his wife in University Park, FL where they were members of the University Park Country Club. Besides his beloved wife of 71 plus years, he leaves five children, Linda, of Woodinville, Washington, Clifton L. and his wife Mary of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Bradley and his wife Susan, of Gordonsville, Virginia, and James of Tara, FL, and Douglas of University Park, FL. He leaves behind eight grand-children, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
