Dorothy Olive

Dorothy Olive passed away peacefully on December 7, 2020 at the age of 97 in Venice Florida. Dorothy was born to Paulina Tretscher and William Kennedy on November 7, 1923. After Dorothy's mother passed away of tuberculosis, she and her siblings were separated. Dorothy’s siblings were Patrick, William, Deloris and Raymond. Dorothy was adopted into the Reiling Family as the 17th child of Julia Reiling. Dorothy called Julia “Grandma” because Rose Reiling Hudson had to sign the adoption paper because of Julia’s age. Julia loved Dorothy so much and Dorothy had many beautiful stories about her Grandmother. Dorothy was also blessed to be especially close her many cousins and with her brother who everyone called: "Uncle Bill." Dorothy attended Washington High School in St. Paul, MN and then St. Bernard’s Commercial School, University of MN and St. Thomas College. Dorothy worked at General Mills for many years. Dorothy was married to Howard Normand on May 2, 1958. Howard owned gum ball and toy machines at the Minnesota State Fair and throughout the Minnesota. Dorothy and Howard would travel to refill the machines every weekend. They were able experience many fantastic resorts during this time. Howard passed away on November 13, 1970 at the age of 55. They had been married for 12 years. Dorothy found the next love of her life when she married Milan Anthony Olive on October 27, 1978 when she was 55 years old. Milan passed away on September 25, 2011 in Venice Florida at the age of 93. They had been married for 32 years. Milan would often say: “What a woman!” Dorothy and Milan were members of Our Lady of Lourdes starting in 1988 and helped with the building of the church. They served as sacristans and Dorothy was involved with the Women’s Club. Dorothy had many interests: Bridge, Mahjong, Mexican Train Dominos, Razzle Dazzle, needle arts, beading and reading. She chaired many bridge groups and card parties. Dorothy always wore a smile, was full of energy and was caring to everyone. Everyone saw her as a beacon of positivity and a role model for enjoying life to its fullest. Funeral Mass on Monday, December 28th at 10am Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (1301 Center Rd, Venice Florida.) Lunch to follow outside at Jacaranda Country Club, 1901 Jacaranda Blvd. Venice, FL
