    Edward F. "Chip" Newberger, Jr

    March 29, 2022

Edward F. “Chip” Newberger, Jr. passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord at home in Sarasota, Florida, on March 29, 2022. He is survived by his dear wife, Elizabeth, sister Eve Silverbach, daughter Lynn, son Matthew, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson who were fortunate to have Chip as a mentor in their lives. Born in Gainesville, Florida, Chip grew up in Fort Pierce, where he was band captain in his senior year at Dan McCarty High School. After enlisting in the U.S. Army, Chip was named Outstanding Trainee in Basic Training and went on to serve his country in Vietnam. While earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Chip loved model railroading and served as the newsletter editor for the RealRail club. He was active with St. James United Methodist Church, most recently serving as Lay Leader and head of the Leadership team. A loving and godly husband and father, Chip will be remembered for his kind spirit and heart for helping others. He was a living example of diligence in work and patience with people. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on April 2, 2022 at Saint James United Methodist Church, 2049 N. Honore Ave., Sarasota, FL 34235. A graveside service for family will be held later at Sarasota National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. James United Methodist Church, Tidewell Hospice, or The Railroad Education & Learning Center of Florida, 6804 14th Street W., Bradenton, FL 34207.
