Freida "Jeannette" McCarty Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Freida “Jeannette” McCarty, 75, of Sarasota Florida, passed away on Friday, December 24th 2021. Jeannette was one of 5 children born to Henry Mallory & Lucretia Bennett on February 17th, 1946 in Valdosta, Georgia. She is survived by her brothers, Charles “Chuck”, Larry, and sister, Audrey Ferguson; as well as her nephew Garry Firlotte, who was like a brother to her, and her very best friend from childhood, Julia “Pally” May. Jeannette is preceded in death by her sister Vernadine and her parents, Mallory & Lucretia. Jeannette had 2 daughters with James “Jimmy” McCarty; Traci and Carla, and 4 grandchildren; Brooke, Kassandra, Austin and Trace, and one great-granddaughter, Lily. She grew up in Jacksonville and moved to Sarasota, Florida in the early 70’s. Though she made a few moves to be near her loved ones… she ended up back “home” in Sarasota. She held various jobs throughout her life, but the majority was spent being a friend, therapist, and joke-teller as a bartender. Jeannette was lovingly known as a quick witted, strong willed, vivacious woman with an incredibly generous heart. Her family, both blood-related and chosen, always came first, and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She loved a classy dinner (with great service of course), a good card game, and could never be left out of a sports bet. Jeannette overcame many hardships in her life, remaining endlessly resilient through her final days. She lives on as an Angel among us and her strength is passed on in her legacy. Jeannette’s family wishes to hold a memorial service in Sarasota sometime near her birthday in February 2022 to celebrate her life. Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”
