Howard Joseph Curle, Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Howard Joseph Curle, Jr. was born in Queens, New York, on February 4, 1947, to Howard and Marie Coonan Curle. He was married to Robin for 44 years and had a son Michael, a daughter Janice, and a granddaughter Emma. He was predeceased by his brother Joe. He lived in Farmingdale, New York as a child and graduated from Half Hollow Hills High School in 1964. The San Francisco Giants drafted him after attending the University of Texas in Austin for one year on a pitching scholarship. Unfortunately, the US Army also drafted him that week, and he went to Fort Gordon, Georgia, for basic training. He was selected for OCS and then special forces at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, enduring the TET offensive. He was awarded the Silver Star and Bronze Star for bravery and three Purple Hearts. He received battlefield promotions to captain. After his military discharge, he studied criminal justice at Buffalo State College. He became a New York State police officer, rising to detective before retiring to Venice, Florida, in 1991. During the 1990s, Howie became involved in coaching Girls AAU and Venice High School Girls Varsity Basketball, cherishing his time helping the girls on his team succeed. Howie was a friend, leader, and role model in the community, always generous with his knowledge and time. He loved the New York Yankees and enjoyed playing golf. Some of his special memories were going to the Masters Tournament and playing Pebble Beach with his son Michael. He was a devoted husband of 44 years to his wife Robin, whom he loved and protected with all of his huge heart. Memorial services will be on August 5, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
