October 27, 1926 - August 30, 2021
Joanne Betts Chenoweth was born on October 27, 1926, and died on August 30, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband, Don Chenoweth, her daughter, Joanie Lynn, her parents, Clyde and Faith Betts, her sisters Barbara Joy Harris, Grace Riddick, and Virginia Whitesell, and her brothers Gene Betts and Jerry Betts. She is survived by her grandson, Wade Adams, her granddaughter, MaryJoanne Adams Delacruz, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her “Aunt Joby”. Joanne lived in several places throughout her busy life. After graduation from Bradenton High School she lived in Sarasota, FL, where she worked as a telephone operator for Peninsula Telephone Company, and lived on a small livestock ranch. Joanie Lynn, loving daughter to Joanne and Buddy Johnson, and later step-daughter to Don Chenoweth, arrived on January 16, 1954, and was always the joy of her life. Joanne and Joanie moved to Savannah, GA, where she was hostess at the Savannah Inn and lived with her sister, Grace, and her family. They moved to Tampa FL, to enjoy life on the Alafai River. After she married Don they moved to Corydon, IA, where they lived and worked on their farm. They later resided in Indiana, before moving to Ellenton, FL, where she enjoyed working at The Wonder Shop. After Don’s death she lived there with her dear friend, Doris Giblin, and cared for her mother, Faith, until her death. She moved to Perry, FL, and then to Calhoun, TN, where she lived with her nephew Jerry Affolter and his wife, Cindra. She moved to Ames, IA, to be with Joanie and her family, until Joanie’s death in 2018, then returned to Tennessee to live with Jerry and Cindra, who lovingly cared for her in their home until she was peacefully called to her heavenly home to be with the Lord and with loved ones who have gone before. Wherever she lived, she was a lover of plants and flowers and spent much time working in her yards and gardens. She was a real pet lover. Inky, Mickey, Titan and other family pets in Iowa were very special to her, giving her comfort through the hard times as well as the good. She loved to read, and to share her thoughts with others. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who crossed her path. She will be missed. A gravesite service will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at Old Miakka Cemetery.
