Kim Harwood Miller
January 19, 2021
Kim Harwood Miller, 66, of Sarasota, FL formerly of Jacksonville, FL, Baltimore, MD and Camp Springs, MD passed on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Kim was born on September 25, 1954 in Baltimore, MD, the son of the late Francis and Amy Lee Miller. A graduate of Peabody Conservatory of Music at the Johns Hopkins University and a 32 year veteran of the USMC, Kim is survived by his wife, Vickie Yanics, brothers Mark Miller (Anne), Jan Miller (Barbara), Brian Miller, (Janet) and daughter Natasha Sekkat, son Geoffrey Miller, grandchildren Sabrina Sekkat, Stephen Sekkat and Samuel Sekkat. After graduating from college, Kim, a violinist, began a 32 year career as a Marine with the US Marine Band Chamber Orchestra. For 14 years Kim was the concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra, whose duties included providing musical support for White House state dinners, receptions, and other social and diplomatic events. Kim and his wife, Vickie Yanics, a fellow violinist in the Chamber Orchestra, also played numerous concerts in the Washington, DC area. He was a member of Lions Clubs International. With his enthusiasm for life, there were few things Kim did that he didn’t enjoy, be it bird-watching during a kayaking trip, or visiting museums or walking nature trails with his beloved wife Vickie. His greatest passions were for golf, tennis, and baseball (Baltimore Orioles); seldom a day went by that he wasn’t out on the course or the courts, always pushing himself to be the best he could, and always appreciating the experience. Kim was known for being outgoing, kind, funny and friendly; there was nobody he met who he didn’t like, and many of his friends considered him to be their best friend. Often, to the chagrin of his family, he would strike up a conversation with a complete stranger, talking with them as though they had known each other for years. Kim exemplified the best qualities of camaraderie and compassion for his fellows, always willing to go the extra mile for anyone in need; he was a shining example of the Golden Rule put into practice. But there was nobody Kim loved and cared for more than his family. He adored his children, always speaking proudly of Natasha and Geoffrey and of their accomplishments. And he loved his grand-children, whether visiting or during one their many phone or FaceTime calls, Kim always made sure he was part of their lives. A private memorial service is being held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Southeastern Guide Dog School, 4210 77th St. E, Palmetto, FL 34221. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.toalebrothers.com
