Renate lived a very full and fruitful life. At age 14, she, along with her mother and step-sister, escaped persecution in Germany and fled to Guatemala. Finally, in 1941, Renate and her family made their way to Rhode Island. Renate attended Hope High School in Providence. After High school, Renate attended secretarial school and began working as a bookkeeper where she would eventually meet and marry Harold Sadwin. Following the war, Renate and Harold settled in Woonsocket, RI and started their family. Renate was very involved in her community through Family, Business, The Temple and Charity. She was President of the Sisterhood at the Temple and was a staple in the Northern Rhode Island Mental Health community. After Harold’s untimely death, Renate met her second husband, also widowed, Isidore Kirshenbaum, and they eventually settled in Sarasota in 1976 to enjoy the golden years. Renate and Issy spent many years enjoying life together. She and Issy attended theatre, the symphony, lectures, and traveling. Renate took up sculpting and Issy painting. They enjoyed meeting new folks and welcoming frequent visitors. Renate is survived by her son Howard Sadwin, his wife Nancy, her daughter, Susan Morin her grandsons Peter and Robert Morin. Renate. Had a wonderful sense of humor and it is only fitting to conclude this obituary with her favorite saying, ” Getting Old is a Bi—h! “ A Private funeral was held on July 20. Under the direction of Toale Brothers. Officiated by Rabbi Michael Eisenstat. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Renate’s name to the Sarasota symphony orchestra.
