November 16, 1959 - October 14, 2021
Richard Kolinsky, 61, left this world on October 14, 2021, in Roatan, Honduras, where he lived and worked for the last ten years. He continued to maintain his United States citizenship as he hoped to someday move back to Florida and retire along with his family. He leaves behind his mother, Ethel Fay Kolinsky of Sarasota, Florida. Additional survivors include his uncle Steven Kolinsky and aunt Elaine “Bunny” Kolinsky. Other surviving loved ones include cousins and many, many adoring friends. His beloved father Ernest Kolinsky and brother, Alan Kolinsky pre-deceased him. Most knew him as Rick or Mr. Rick. A few as Ricky. Rick was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 16, 1959, and lived in Warminster and Valley Forge. After graduating Upper Merion High School, he studied biology and business at West Chester and Arizona State Universities. He fell in love with the hospitality industry and managed hotels in Valley Forge, Baltimore, and Florida. Next, he went on to Infinity Bay Resort and Spa in Roatan, Honduras, where he found his second home and family. Once there, he became active in every aspect of Roatan life. In addition to managing the hotel and eventually becoming part-owner, he raised monies for special events and charities, promoted the island as a tourist attraction, and became known to everyone on the island, including dignitaries and diplomats. He brightened the lives of each person he met, even if just for a moment, and they all considered him their best and dearest friend. He devoted his life to Ethel Fay. She called him the most adoring and devoted son for which any mother could ask and everyone else echoes this sentiment. Animals were one of Rick’s greatest passions. Buddy, an abandoned dog he adopted in Baltimore, was his dearest pal for over a decade. He adopted Buddy after seeing a commercial detailing Buddy’s abandonment in a garage. He additionally started a Facebook page, entitled, Roatan Pet Lovers, which is dedicated to animal care and protection. Rick could not pass by a hurting or lost animal and often cared for other neglected and hurt animals. Rick also loved to travel, where he could enjoy a soccer game or concert. He treasured his latest visit to Israel, where the Wailing Wall especially moved him. He also loved movies and music, particularly U2. Friends and family were also his passion, and he spent most of his time giving to others and making sure everyone else was happy. Toale Brothers of Sarasota, Florida will hold private services later this month. Contributions to the Humane Society of Sarasota County would be most welcome.
