Roger D. Wollstadt, 85, of Sarasota, died on June 14, 2021. He was born on April 3, 1936, in Rockford, IL. He died from late complications from mouth cancer. He was cremated under the direction of Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Sarasota and ashes were buried, with military honors, at Willwood Burial Park, Rockford, IL, next to his parents. He graduated from Millburn (NJ) High School in 1954. He attended college at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and transferred to Haverford College, graduating with a B.A. in 1958. He had graduate study, at University of California Graduate School of Business Administration, Berkley, CA in 1963, earning an M.B.A. degree. Military Service was with the United States Army Security Agency, was from June 1958-June 1961. He was trained at the Army Language School, Monterey, CA, for one year, and then served in Germany for two years, helping translate Russian command traffic into English. Roger’s employment record included work with the American Electric Power Service Corporation, Center for Naval Analysis in Washington, DC, Caterpillar, Inc, In Peoria IL and for American Petroleum Institute in Washington, DC. In all his positions, he was an economic and policy analyst. He was a member of the American Economic Association and Operations Research Society of America. He retired to Sarasota in 1994. Roger was married to Eileen Guarneri in Millburn, NJ, in 1971 and divorced in 1986. Roger married Janet Love in Venice, FL, in 1991. Janet predeceased Roger, dying on January 1, 2017. He was also predeceased by his parents, Paul and Elzada Wollstadt. Roger was most fond of travel, first while in the Army (throughout Europe), then during work years, and especially after retirement. He and Janet went on multiple cruises in the Caribbean Sea, and elsewhere. During retirement he hosted multiple foreign travelers at his home as a member of Friendship Force. In retirement he also had a long term as a volunteer at Meals on Wheels of Sarasota and assisted the community reading program at Church of the Palms in Sarasota. He was active in the Swedish and Danish Clubs in the Sarasota area. Roger appreciated the workers at Healp at Home Homecare and Tidewell Hospice for enabling him to stay in the comfort of his home during his final months of life. He particularly lauded the assistance he and his wife received from former Help at Home caregiver, Diana Lemoine. Survivors include Brothers, David (Genie),Old Town ME, and Loyd Wollstadt, Rockford IL, by cousins, Dorothy Briggson, Viroqua WI, Marjie Jurgenson, Gays Mills WI, and by nieces and nephews, Alexis Wollstadt, Davenport FL, Andrea Wollstadt, Saco ME, Mary Wollstadt, Watertown MA, Rebecca Wollstadt, Old Town ME, Rachael Wollstadt, Bangor ME, David Wollstadt, Vacaville CA, Laura Patterson, Erie CO, and Lynn Wollstadt, Wheaton IL. Roger had six grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Roger was also survived by his first wife, Eillen. Roger especially remembered his Swedish cousin, Sussie (Seppo) Wester, Loderup, Sweden. At his request, there was no memorial service.
