Rosemarie Schriefer
August 26, 1931 - July 16, 2020
Rosemarie Schriefer (Ceraso) passed away on July 16, 2020. She was 88 years old. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she briefly worked in Manhattan after graduating high school until she married Henry C. Schriefer in May 1956. Together, they lived in Bayport, NY for 30 years until they retired to Seminole, Fl. They were married for 57 years until Hank's passing in 2013. We wish we could say Rosemarie was surrounded by her loving family; but unfortunately, COVID robbed her of that blessing. On July 9th, 2020, Rosemarie went into the hospital after testing positive. The toll of dementia combined with COVID was too much for her. She died peacefully, surrounded by compassionate nurses and doctors who saw her through life’s end. Rosemarie’s fondest memories were of the large Italian family get-togethers every Sunday and on holidays, a tradition that lasted well into her adult life. She was a stay-at-home mom but worked taking care of dozens & dozens of children over the years as an in-home daycare provider, mostly for the area’s teachers. For many years after, she received birthday cards and wedding invitations from “her” kids. She loved to have ‘cake & cawffee’ with the girls and could spend hours on the phone with the neighbor next door. She didn’t drive yet would take any opportunity to go shopping, to head into NYC to see a show, or just go for walk. Her family would tease her if invited, she’d attend a letter opening. The seven years since her husband’s death had been difficult. But while her quality of life deteriorated, she never lost her love for connecting with people. She is survived by her son Russell J. Schriefer and daughter-in-law Nina Easton Schriefer of Chevy Chase, MD; three grandchildren – Taylor Brownstein, Danny Brownstein, and Elizabeth Rose Schriefer; her sisters-in-law - Agnes Zollinhofer of Ft. Myers, Fl. and Patricia Sosnowski of East Marion, NY as well as seventeen nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Rosemarie will be missed by her family and many, many friends. A memorial Mass and burial at Sarasota National Cemetery will occur at a future date post-COVID. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Rosemarie’s name be made to USAgainstAlzheimer's https://www.usagainstalzheimers.org/
