Antonia Comparato

Antonia Comparato, 79, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at home on July 22, 2026, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Carini, a small village near Palermo in Sicily, Antonia learned to cook, sew, and create—talents that became part of who she was. She was always proud of her Sicilian heritage and the traditions that shaped her. When she came to the United States in her early twenties, she embraced the opportunity to build a new life and raise her family with the best of both worlds. Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joy of her life. She expressed her love through the home she fostered , where family and friends were always welcomed. A visit to Antonia’s home meant a crowded table, delicious homemade food, and the feeling that you belonged, whether you had known her for years or were there for the first time. Antonia was a gifted artist with a natural ability to create. She loved to cook, sew, write, sculpt, draw, and paint, bringing beauty and adornment to everything she touched. To those who knew her, there didn’t seem to be anything she couldn’t do. She loved to learn and when she wanted to make something, she simply figured it out. She loved to dance because she loved life. Her smile was radiant, her laughter came easily, and her joy was contagious to all. She had a way of making ordinary moments feel like celebrations. The same warmth that made Antonia so welcoming extended far beyond her family. Through teaching A Course in Miracles and volunteering at the Women’s Resource Center, making people feel seen, supported, and capable of more than they believed possible. Antonia is survived by her children, Guido Comparato; Jerome Comparato and his wife, Kendra; Jessica Dunn and her husband, John; and Angela Johnston and her husband, Jonathan. She was a proud grandmother to Nolan and Carter Dunn; Ty, Sunday, and Cleo Johnston; and Louie Comparato. She is also survived by her sister, Angela Panizzo, along with extended family and dear friends. We will forever miss her beautiful smile, the meals that brought us together, the beauty she created with her hands, and the love she poured into our family. The traditions she passed down and the life she built will continue through the generations she left behind. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Antonia’s home. Family and friends are invited to join together to celebrate Antonia’s life and the many ways she touched those who knew and loved her.
