Barney David Schwartz

Barney David Schwartz, 78, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home, after a long illness with comorbidity health issues on June 26, 2026. Barney’s out-going nature and robust personality were adored by all who knew him. He enjoyed two long marriages with his cherished wives Trudy and Ruthie, and deeply loved his extended family, Barney was born March 28, 1948, in Manhattan, New York, to Nick and Bettie (Hirschl) Schwartz. Barney graduated from Mount Vernon High School, New York, and the New York Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. Professionally, Barney was an entrepreneur using his college business skills, intelligence, and savvy to create and sell several businesses during his lifetime. Barney’s last thirty years of working, he founded the telecommunications company- Business Telephone Sales, which he operated out of his warehouse in Venice, Florida. His online websites sold business telephones and systems which were shipped all over North America. Barney oversaw the daily management of his business from buying, selling, shipping, and the financials. Barney worked every day until his 74th birthday, when he retired and sold his warehouse and company. Barney brought laughter everywhere he went. He reveled in having fun. Barney enjoyed dining in the evening at various restaurants, watching old movies, listening to sixties music, and walking the beach where he previously lived on Manasota Key. Barney enjoyed traveling and exploring diverse locations. Barney’s love of New York Broadway Theater once allowed him the opportunity to have a marathon and see ten plays in one week. June 2011, Barney appeared in an “Off Broadway Comedy Play” with Joyce DeWitt, at the Downstairs Cabaret Theatre in New York City’s Time Square. Barney used his comedic antics to foster laughter. Barney exhibited cheerfulness and happiness as an optimistic person, who in later years with comorbidity health issues maintained a pollyannaish positive outlook. Barney is survived by his wife Ruthie Schwartz. He is preceded in death by his parents and fist wife, Trudy Anne (Blau) Schwartz, mother of his two daughters, Elena Tara Schwartz and Melanie Claire Schwartz McGill. At a late date, a celebration of life with friends and family members will be held following Toale Brothers cremation with a boat launch commemoration in Little Sarasota Bay.
