Benoit J. Quirion

Benoit J. Quirion was born in St Martin Quebec Canada to Napoleon and Zelia Quirion on Sept. 9, 1931. He was orphaned by an early age and was extremely close to his siblings who all had to take care of each other which made him value his family above anything. Ben moved to the United States at the age of 21 after serving time in the Canadian navy. He met the love of his life Lorraine in CT at the age of 22 and they were married a year later on May 7, 1955. Soon to follow were their 4 children, Steven John, Gary Allen, David Paul and Linda Marie all within 5 years so they were quite busy. In 1970 Ben packed up the family and moved everybody to Vermont where he and Lorraine worked together and ran a successful appliance business for 5 years and then moved to NY in 1975 and did the same thing again until their retirement in 1983. Ben and Lorraine bought their home at Kings Gate in Nokomis and soon became an integral part of the community playing golf, tennis, bowling and playing cards, lots and lots of cards… He was passionate about history in all its form including researching the Quirion family tree. His last project was the recording of the history of Kings Gate Club and Ben had done a presentation just months before his death. Ben’s other passion was fishing which he passed on to all his sons. He and Lorraine also loved to travel and saw much of the world together. They made sure to include the family in some of their adventures taking kids and grandkids on many cruises and very memorable trip to Costa Rica. Ben loved his family more than anything and it was a great joy to him that all of his children had homes close by. He is survived by his wife Lorraine of 68 years, his 4 children, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his sister Colombe. The funeral for Benoit will be held on Friday, July 7th at 10:30 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 425 So Tamiami Trail, Osprey, Florida with a reception to follow at 12:30 pm at the Kings Gate Club, 290 B Ave of Kings B, Nokomis, FL 34275 In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Tidwell Hospice
