Jaime (Jimmy) S. Carrion

Jimmy Carrion passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on March 24, 2018. Jimmy was born in Puerto Rico to the late Rafael Carrion and Ernestina Ruiz. He leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Dora Ramon, their children Dora Maria and Nevin Thomas, Jaime and Olga Carrion, son-in-law Brian McSweeney, grandchildren Megan, Ryan, Michelle, Danielle, Michael, James, and Natalie, and great-grandsons, Berdon, Tanner, Paxton and Thomas. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Anina and his seven brothers and sisters. After attending Valley Forge Military Academy, the University of Pennsylvania, and Cornell University, he settled in Puerto Rico and began his business career as a dairy farmer followed by 10 years in the industrial gas business. His next venture was to create a commuter airline which grew from one airplane to the world’s largest 3rd level carrier. In 1973, Jimmy moved to Sarasota with his family. His entrepreneurial spirit thrived in Sarasota where he developed a prodigious number of businesses and ventures which included real estate brokerage, cattle ranching, real estate development, bowling center development, citrus groves and thoroughbred racing. His last venture was the development of self-storage facilities. Although Jimmy’s business accomplishments were extraordinary by any measure, he will be most remembered for his honesty and integrity in his personal relationships, as well as in his business dealings. Jimmy had a deep love of family and country and an unwavering faith in God. He was a devoted husband to his loving Dora and was an exemplary father to his children. An astute though humble man, Jimmy quietly helped an untold number of people throughout his life never seeking accolades or personal credit. Only the many recipients of his generosity truly know the depth of his love and compassion for others. Although Jimmy will be dearly missed, he will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. A funeral Mass will be held at St Martha’s Catholic Church, 200 N. Orange Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34236, on Saturday, April 7th at 10:00 am.
