Jo Ann Scott Spence

Jo Ann Scott Spence, 86, passed away on November 30, 2018. She was born February 20, 1932 in N. Little Rock, Arkansas. She was lovingly known as Grandma Jo by all those around her. She met her husband, Roy, when she was 19 and married in 1951, moving to Miami in 1952. She lived there until she moved to Bradenton in 2000. She loved to cook and bake and the kitchen was her most favorite spot in the house. Her desserts were legendary and she enjoyed making trays of Christmas cookies for all those she loved. Football was a big part of her life and she looked forward to the football season every year. She always knew who was playing and she especially loved her Arkansas Razorbacks. She was a home economics student in college and later became one of the top sewing instructors for Bernina in South Florida. She also loved to quilt and made so many beautiful blankets and special pieces that will always be cherished. But most most of all, her unwavering faith and love for Christ was the biggest gift she provided. She instilled the importance of having a strong faith and importance of a strong family to all of us. And her gentle, loving spirit was a blessing in all the lives of those that knew her. She sang in the church choir for all of her adult life and she loved to sing for the Lord. She was a charter member of Killian Pines United Methodist Church in Miami and also a charter member of Harvest United Methodist Church in Bradenton. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Spence, Jr. , her father Joe Scott, mother Beryl Scott and brother Jack Scott. She is survived by her son Scott Spence, daughter Cyndi Myers , son in law Ralph Myers, grandsons Roy Spence, Daniel Myers, John Spence, and James Spence and granddaughter Macaire Myers. Visitation will be held at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 40 N. Orange Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34236. Sunday, December 16 from 12:30pm-1:45pm with a procession to Harvest United Methodist Church- 14305 Covenant Way, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202, where services will begin at 2:30pm. A reception will be held following church services at the Myers home located at 6922 73rd Court East, Bradenton. JoAnn will then be cremated and her ashes spread in the church garden at a later date. In lieu of flower's donations may be made to Harvest United Methodist Church, 14305 Covenant Way, Lakewood Ranch, FL 34202.
