Judith Ann (Cook) Terry, born on February 13, 1953, in Sarasota, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, embraced in love by her son Brian and his wife. She was 72 years old. The cherished daughter of Fay and Beulah Cook, who preceded her in death, Judy grew up in Sarasota, where her parents owned a local shoe store, which was her very first job and a place where she began building the sincere, genuine, people-centered values that defined her life. Always a character, she was far more captivated by her friends and the world around her than by the confines of the classroom, a quality that gave her a lifelong knack for connection and conversation. She went out of her way to make people happy. Judy had a zeal for life, a smile on her face, and was a strong woman of faith. At 19, she married Jeffrey Collins, the father of her beloved son Brian, and though their marriage later ended, their friendship endured. Judy remained close with Jeff during his life, and the extended Collins family continued to share in life’s moments with warmth and loyalty. Judy built a fulfilling career at the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, dedicating many years to a job she took great pride in, surrounded by colleagues she considered family. She also spent many joyful years in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, where the sea breeze, island rhythms, and a vibrant circle of friends brought her joy and adventure. She was a devoted mother to Brian and his loving wife, Cassie, and a proud grandmother to her beautiful grandchildren Camryn and Brennan Collins, whose lives she shaped with unwavering love. Judy is also survived by her brother David Cook, whom she loved very much, her wonderful sister Donna, and her brother-in-law Wayne Galberaith. She held a special place in her heart for her niece Allison Galberaith, and for Kimberly and Jodi Capeless, whose children, Grace and Jack, she enjoyed watching grow up from afar. Her circle of affection spread wide, reaching dear friends in the U.S. Virgin Islands and at Chester’s, where laughter echoed and friendships grew deep. In her younger years, she enjoyed spending time at the beach and Myakka State Park with Brian, family, and friends. Those who knew Judy will remember her quick wit, her irresistible spirit, and her deep-rooted kindness. Whether through her laugh, her smile, or her humor, she left a lasting impression on all she encountered. As the Jimmy Buffett song goes—“So when the journey gets long, just know that you are loved, there is a light up above, and the joy is always enough, bubbles up.” Judith's journey was radiant and rich, and her light will continue to shine through the many lives she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unforgettable character. She will be missed by everyone who knew her, especially her son Brian, who is so grateful to have a wonderful mother who always made him the priority of her life.
