Jurand 'Randy' Arthur Haas

Jurand ‘Randy’ Arthur Haas, beloved husband, devoted father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024, in Sarasota, Florida, with the knowledge that he was greatly loved by many. He was 84 years old. Born on July 4,1940, in Queens, New York, Randy was the only child of Charles and Catherine (Fiolek) Haas. Shortly after he was born, the family moved to New Jersey, where Randy spent most of his life. He graduated from Montclair High School in 1958 and went on to attend Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Randy had a strong and reassuring presence. He was a man who lit up the room with his smile and wit. He loved the water and spent most of his career and life around it. He started his career in corporate sales at the Brunswick Corporation, in the marine division. In the early 1970’s, he joined Mercury Marine and went on to be the key point person for the company in the Northeast for over 35 years. He was known and respected throughout the marine community and was a key figure in the growth of recreational boating on the East Coast. He often traveled to the company headquarters in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, but his heart was with his dealers in the Northeast. As Mercury’s regional lead, Randy loved being on the road, traveling the coast, meeting with clients and making lifelong friends. He was the head representative at the annual New York Boat Show for many years. In 2002, he founded and led the Montauk Mercury Grand Slam Fishing tournament, which is still held annually at Uihlein’s Marina. Randy was often recognized for his sales accomplishments, including receiving the Mercury Marine President’s Award. He retired in 2008, at the age of 68. Randy was a resident of Bay Head, New Jersey, where he lived with his wife, Joyce, for 25 years. He loved spending summer days sitting on Howe Street beach and floating out on the waves on his boogie board. He was a regular at many of the local restaurants and enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July with an annual party at their home with family and friends. Randy was a caring and admired husband, father and grandfather. He was a proud American, an avid boater and a loyal friend. Randy is survived by his wife Joyce; four children, Stephanie Hosbein (Mark), Stephen Haas (Michele), Jennifer Carlston (Thane), Allison Cea (Viktor); nine grandchildren, Andrew (Elizabeth), Michael (Virginia), and William Hosbein; Lindsay and Casey Haas; Theo and Finn Carlston; and Roman and Avery Cea; and stepdaughter Cynthia Johnston (Keith) and step-grandsons Ryan (Kaitlin) and Kyle. He is also survived by Evelyn (Zingali) Haas, Janet (Holt) Wright and his beloved aunt, Mary (Fiolek) Loughlin.
