Leta Louise Renfroe

Leta Louise Renfroe, 89, died peacefully on January 16, 2018 at her home in Sarasota, Florida, surrounded by her family. Leta was born on August 20, 1928 in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Ralph and Amelia Goodwin. Leta graduated from Vincennes Lincoln High School and attended the University of Louisville school of Nursing. While studying in Louisville, she met the love of her life, Woodrow Renfroe, who was attending law school. They married on April 7, 1951 and lived a full, happy life together until his death in 1998. In addition to raising three children, Leta worked as a Registered Nurse. Nursing was more than a job to her. It was her calling. Her love, compassion, and natural desire to help others served her well, as she was known as an excellent nurse. She retired from her nursing career as the Quality Assurance Administrator at Central State Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Leta had many interests and was immensely talented; a true renaissance woman. She was as comfortable painting a beautiful rose, as she was rewiring a house. She could hand stitch a beautiful quilt or build a bookshelf. She was a collector of antique jewelry, Victorian pottery, and old Hollywood memorabilia. She loved movies, music, theater, dancing, traveling, cars, and playing cards with her golfing buddies at Jeff Elks Country Club. Going to dinner with her dear friends, The Dining Divas, was always special. Leta loved sports. She roller skated into her seventies and enjoyed her passion for golf into her eighties. She was proud of the fact that she made three holes in one! Leta was a loyal Kentucky Wildcats fan and as they say in Kentucky, she bled blue! Above all else, family and friends were her passion and delight. There was nothing quite like being loved and cherished by Leta. Leta is survived by her two sons, Woody (Laurie) Renfroe, and Randy (Lynne) Renfroe, of Sarasota, FL, and her daughter, Suzanne (John) Schibel, of Sisters, Oregon. Her grandchildren, Emily Renfroe Guenther (Andreas), Sara Renfroe, Sean Renfroe, Heather Renfroe, Aaron Burton, and great-granddaughter, Tori Burton. She is also survived by her very special niece Emily (Joe) Kniesly, as well as a number of other wonderful relatives and friends. Leta made the world a better place for everyone who knew her. Her love, energy, and zest for life will be sorely missed. "I have done everything that I have ever wanted to do in my life. I am a Happy woman" – Leta Renfroe A Memorial Mass will be held in Louisville, Kentucky on Saturday, August 18th, 2018 at 10:00 am at Saint Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
