Sandra A. Titus

Sandra Avery Titus, loving wife of Wayne Brown Titus, II for over 56 years and mother of five, joined the church triumphant on Saturday January 2, 2021 at the age of 75. Sandy, as she was known to all who loved her, was born on October 17, 1945 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey to the late Dr. S. Donald and Dorothy (Berger) Avery of Easton, PA. As a young lady in Easton, Pennsylvania, Sandy was an athlete. In her younger years, she was a competitive swimmer, a golf club champion and was on the bowling team. Lat- er, she coached the country club swim team. She attended the Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, PA and the University Pennsylvania. Sandy was kind, compassionate, fiercely independent, humorous and, as her sister mentioned “a tickle in our heart.” Not one to do anything the usual way, she was creative and thoughtful. Sandy was the chief executive of her home and kept a meticulous house. All this while raising five children, fostering two young children, playing host mother to two exchange students from Denmark, and welcoming many wayward young teenagers into her home. A strong and determined woman, Sandy received her “second wind” through a double lung transplant at Christmas time in 2011…. A total miracle. Sandy loved fishing, boating, grooming her poodles, entertaining, listening to antique music boxes and painting. But mostly, she loved being the matriarch of her family. Attending to all the needs of others before her own, she always said Vicks Vapor Rub could cure just about anything from the common cold, to a pimple, to a potential bruise. She never left home without it. Sandy is survived by her husband, Wayne, her five children, Wayne B. Titus, III, his wife Lisa (Kaiser) Titus and their children, Jessica Titus Harwell, her husband M. Wayne Harwell, Scott Avery Titus, his wife Kim (Painter) Titus, Lindsay Anne (Titus) McCormick and Cathryn Jane Titus. Sandy is also survived by her three siblings (Susan Cobb, Sally Avery, Scott Avery), eight grandchildren and eleven nieces and nephews. A memorial will be held later this spring when family can gather and rejoice in Sandy’s life. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Southeastern Guide Dogs would honor her memory. She loved dogs and loved attending the Guide Dog graduation ceremonies when people would graduate with their new life-long friend.
