Scott Michael Gulling

Scott Michael Gulling died peacefully on January 17, 2026, after a long and progressive kidney ailment. Scott was born on October 19, 1969, with a complex package of challenges. He lived his life positively, happily, with humility, confidence, great honesty, and integrity. He worked hard in school, especially at reading, graduating in 1991 from Southwest High School with honors and spoke at his graduation ceremony. Scott continued at NWTC earning a certification in early childhood education. There were many fine teachers who helped Scott at Southwest, but the family would particularly like to thank Mrs. Hilla and Mrs. Derginer for their encouragement and patience. Scott enjoyed reading a wide variety of books. He especially enjoyed Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes books, leading him to other mysteries and young adult fiction. Scott loved music, particularly country (Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash), 50’s music (he knew all of the words), and even classical and opera. Scott loved playing cards…poker and Uno… with his family. His infectious laugh led to good natured teasing in the group. And Scott won frequently! Scott also loved watching the Packers. He was very strong in his Catholic faith, attending church weekly all his life. Scott bore his condition and health related hiccups and treatments with amazing patience, never complaining. He was a favorite of his many doctors. The family would particularly like to thank Dr. Kenneth Kubsch, Dr. Dan Koster, Dr. Thomas Rossiter, Dr. Anthony Marchlewski and Dr. Robert Kaftan, for their care of Scott. At age 20 Scott moved to a small group home overseen by ASPIRO and worked for several years in ASPIRO’s Supported Employment program at Encompass Daycare, and at a pet store. He also worked many years in ASPIRO’s sheltered workshop. Scott made many good friends there and was very popular. He played softball, basketball, soccer, and golf in ASPIRO’s sports programs. The family would like to thank all the wonderful people at ASPIRO who contributed so much to Scott’s quality of life, but particularly Mike Duschene, Jennifer Marquardt, Mark Wescott, Jim Henderson, and Jim Holtzinger and his family, Scott’s advocate and friend. Also, Tim Zinther, a caregiver and friend. Scott “retired” moving back in with his parents full-time in 2018. In 2019 the family moved from Green Bay to Florida where Scott’s new day programming gave Scott even more friends. Scott was liked by everyone he met. Frequently out in public with his parents, there would be a “Hi, Scott” from people his parents didn’t know…but they knew Scott! The family thanks Scott’s Florida team, Dr. Connie Purser, Dr. Leslie Schwartz, Dr. Veeraish Chauhan, and from The Haven, Amanda, Sue, and Harrison. Also Tiniya Love, who spent many hours laughing and talking with Scott. Scott is survived by many loving relatives: His parents, Nancy and Dan Gulling. His first playmates and sisters, Kirstin Gulling and Dana Gulling. Nieces and nephews, Finn Gulling, Annika Gulling, August Martone, Clayton Martone, Adele Tobin-Gulling, and Skylar Martone-Gulling. Various and sundry aunts, uncles, and cousins. Predeceasing Scott are. His grandparents, Anna and Fred Nesbitt Mary and Richard Gulling Aunts and Uncles, Anne and Don Pauken, Sandy and Don Rizzo, George Gilson, Edward Gulling, and John Powers. Cousin, Richard Logan Gulling Scott did very well in his life, especially given the hand he was dealt at birth. All his family, friends and caregivers helped, but Scott was an active agent in making his life successful and happy… for himself and others. He knew his own mind and often let it be known. Scott had the guts to defend his positions… sometimes to the (mostly patient) consternation of his parents and teachers. He was also very loving and loved back. Scott changed and enriched the lives of everyone who knew him, especially his parents and family. We are all grateful for having him in our lives for the past 56 years. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on February 5 at 11 am at Saint Joseph Chapel, located on the south side of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Lakewood Ranch, FL. A reception following Mass will be held at the family’s home.
