Brother William R. Hudspeth

Our dear and amazing Brother William Hudspeth was returned to the author of all life on Tuesday, December 5, 2018. Brother William Hudspeth, S.A.C. (Pallotine Fathers and Brothers) spent the majority of his life as a Catholic Brother in consecrated life. He dedicated his life to serving those in need in various cities, working with persons with developmental challenges, assisting in homeless shelters, and working in homes for children without parents. The last few years Br. Bill has ministered with persons in the St. Martha parish who are homebound. Br. “Bill” was born on May 15th 1942 in Gilroy, California to Worth and Katherine Hudspeth, the sixth of nine children. He was raised primarily in Iowa and Minnesota. He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Hudspeth Scallon (Boscobel, WI), Patricia Jane Hudspeth Elbert (Blue Earth, MN), Mary Joyce Hudspeth Kunkel (New Berlin, WI), and brother Dennis Hudspeth (Algona, IA) and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he adored. Br. Bill ministered and lived with his confreres from St. Martha parish in Sarasota, Florida for the past 29 years. He worked closely in ministry with Fr. Fausto Stampiglia, S.A.C., Fr. Patrick Wilson, S.A.C., Br. Thomas Flanagan, S.A.C., Fr. Wojciech Stachura, S.A.C., Fr. Jan Rykala, S.A.C, at St. Martha Parish and Fr. Carl Birarelli. A dear friend, Dr. Jill Johnson says of Br. Bill: “I will think of his gentleness and acceptance and love for all, especially persons who have developmental challenges. He had great affection for the care of our earth. With a big smile we all remember that he shared with everyone the thrill of flea markets. His only regret might be that he was never on “Antiques Roadshow”. Br. Bill had amazing love for all life. He dearly cherished his family, siblings, nieces and nephews and friends, a person of abounding faith in our God. We say to Br. Visitation will be on Monday, December 10th from 6-8 p.m. at Toale Brothers Funeral Home at 40 N. Orange Ave. in Sarasota. The Mass for Br. Bill will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 11th at 3:30 p.m. at St. Martha Catholic Church, 200 N. Orange Ave.
